Before Your Appointment
- Hair should be at least 1/4 inch long for best results (about 2–3 weeks of growth).
- Take an Ibuprofen and an Antihistamine about 30 minutes prior to reduce inflammation, redness, and pain.
- Do not wax sunburned skin. Allow 3–4 days after tanning before getting waxed.
- Avoid heavy exfoliation the same day — wait about a week after exfoliating.
- Accutane users must be off the medication for at least 6 months. Retin-A users must wait 3–4 weeks.
- Try to relax! Close your eyes and take deep breaths — tensing up makes it more uncomfortable.
After Your Appointment
- Redness and small red bumps are normal and usually last only 24 hours.
- Exfoliate the waxed area with a loofah about 3 days after waxing, then 2–5 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs.
- Apply a mixture of tea tree and lavender oil — both are antimicrobial and antibacterial and will prevent irritation.
- Aloe Vera is a great treatment for just-waxed skin — soothing and a great moisturizer.
- Wear loose fitting clothes for a few days to give your skin a chance to breathe.
- Wait 24–48 hours before sun exposure or tanning beds — freshly waxed skin is likely to burn.
